What’s this thing do? We’re not entirely sure. It appears to be some kind of fiber optic cable for use in telecommunications systems. Each box contains 10 of these individually packaged cables.
With thanks to Jacob again, this is a 2.5G SR (probably short range) receiver used in the “Optera LH” product line at Nortel. These were likely custom made for Nortel Networks.

If we knew more about this item we’d probably be charging a whole lot more for it, but since all we know is the wavelength, and nothing about power output or serviceability it is available at a very reasonable price. Excellent for celebrations, bar mitzvahs, engagement parties, and weddings.

From a very informed customer: This is most likely an LED used as part of a fiber optic communication system. “The 875 nm LED is short for IR fiber optic communication systems which typically operate at wavelengths much longer. This may explain why it does not have a laser class warning label. IR lasers can be dangerous because you cannot see the beam. If powerful enough, they can blind you because your normal blink reflex to close your eye if hit by a bright light does not work”
